Syracuse, N.Y. – Nearly 75 percent of confirmed coronavirus transmissions happen inside households or during social gatherings, Gov. Andrew Cuomo said today.
The analysis is based on about 46,000 cases this fall where officials would tie the infection to a specific source. That’s only about a quarter of the 200,000 cases during that same time period.
Still, the data shows what experts have said in recent weeks: small, indoor gatherings — even with friends and family — can be dangerous.
Other top transmission situations, based on the study, including health care workers, college students and education workers.
Far further down on the list are hair salons, auto dealerships and gyms.
Cuomo used the data to lessen restrictions on some businesses in orange zones.
