”What is planned? The German government has agreed to introduce an “industrial electricity price” starting in 2026. The target price is to be 5 cents per kilowatt-hour (kWh), the minimum price consistent with EU state aid guidelines. This implies a meaningful reduction: according to the Federal Network Agency, the current electricity price for industrial companies with concessions (i.e., large consumers) is currently around 10 cents per kWh. For companies without concessions, the Federal Network Agency reports an electricity price of 16 cents per kWh. The subsidy will be in place for three years until 2028 and likely cost between EUR 3 and 5 bn a year, funded from the Climate and Transformation Fund.”
