“The Danish economy grew by 1% in the second quarter of the year. This is shown by the revised figures from Statistics Denmark. This was slightly less than reported in the first statement, which showed an increase of 1.3%. The growth was driven by the pharmaceutical industry. Without its contribution, gross value added would have fallen by 0.3% over the quarter. There were no revisions to the overall development in GDP in the first quarter. The development shows once again that the great importance of the pharmaceutical industry to the Danish economy means that it can be difficult to use the GDP figures as a real guide to how the Danish economy is actually doing. Production fluctuates a lot from month to month and a large part of it is based on manufacturing outside the country’s borders!”
