I en ny rapport fra Deloitte undersøges fordelene ved en forbedret global klimaindsats. Overgangen til en netto-nul-økonomi kan ifølge rapporten resultere i en øget global økonomi på $43 billioner, mens ukontrollerede klimaændringer kan føre til $178 billioner i økonomiske tab og bringe millioner af job i fare.
Ifølge rapporten er 800 millioner jobs globalt i risiko for at blive påvirket af klimaændringer, hvilket svarer til 25 % at den globale arbejdsstyrke. Sektorer, som vil blive påvirket mest, er landbrug, konventionel energi, industri og produktion, transport samt byggeri, siger rapporten. Rapporten finder, at 40 % af Asien og Afrikas arbejdsstyrke arbejder i disse sektorer.
Hvis den globale klimaindsats øges, finder rapporten: “Deloitte’s modeling has shown that such a transformation could increase the size of the world economy by US$43 trillion in net present-value terms by 2070. Transforming the economy to achieve net-zero emissions by mid-century is an opportunity to change the arc of our global economic future. With the right mix of policies in place, the world could achieve an industrial revolution in under 30 years—giving rise globally to new industries, more jobs, and new types of work and skill sets as the worst impacts of climate change are avoided. Net-zero transformation offers a win-win for the climate and the economy”
