The EU said Sunday it had cancelled a full 28-nation summit to decide Greece’s fate in the single European currency as eurozone finance ministers continue “difficult” reform-for-bailout talks with Athens.
“I have cancelled EUCO (the European Union summit) today,” European Council President Donald Tusk said in a tweet, adding that a summit of 19 eurozone leaders will be held at 1400 GMT and “last until we conclude talks on Greece.”
The move came after divided eurozone finance ministers held “very difficult” talks on Greece late into the night on Friday.

A planned meeting of 28 European Union leaders has been cancelled as crisis talks continue about Greece’s place in the eurozone.
A summit of leaders of just the 19 eurozone countries will still go ahead this afternoon as planned, suggesting an agreed deal is now closer than suspected.
Sky (Other OTC: BSYBF – news) ‘s European Correspondent Robert Nisbet said: “The full council of 28 EU leaders was to be convened to discuss emergency measures should Greece find itself falling out of the eurozone, specifically humanitarian aid and how to get banknotes to Greece to put liquidity back into the system.
“The fact it is now just eurozone leaders meetings suggest they believe there is a kernel of a deal here. This is not specifically the third bailout to be discussed this weekend, it is just the basis of negotiations to organise that third bailout.”
Eurogroup president Mr Dijsselbloem said: “We had an in-depth discussion on Greek proposals. The issue of credibility and trust was discussed and also, of course, the financial issues involved.”
The Dutch finance minister added: “It is still very difficult, but work is still in progress.”
